My name is Max Block; I am a student in my final semester of undergraduate studies double majoring in Supply Chain Management and Leadership at the Asper School of Business. I am currently enrolled in a course where we were challenged by our professor to take part in the Siloam Sleepout; the purpose of which being to write a post-event place-based self-reflection regarding our learning experiences and feelings on the state of homelessness and poverty in Winnipeg.
When people come from places of privilege, it is often easy to forget how challenging it is to cope with the struggles of experiencing homelessness; to not have a place to call home. Experiencing homelessness goes deeper than a lack of money, traumatic experiences throughout one's life leads them to feel pain money cannot solve. When we go about our lives without giving a second thought to our community members in need, we reinforce systems of power that keep those experiencing homelessness in a state of emergency.
Thank you for your time. Please help contribute to my goal of raising $150 to be put towards Siloam Mission's outreach initiatives! This money will go towards providing: Shelter, Food/ Water, Clothing, Transition Services (Preventing Long-Term Homelessness), and much more!
